THE HISTORY OF THE NEW BRAUNFELS RAILROAD MUSEUM
1984, OCTOBER: Organizational meetings initiated by a group of railroad modelers which became the New Braunfels Historic Railroad and Modelers Society.
1985, JUNE: New Braunfels Historic Railroad and Modelers Society (NBHRMS) chartered by the State of Texas.
1986, OCTOBER: NBHRMS granted a lease of the abandoned, former International & Great Northern, Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific depot. Restoration and conversion of the depot into the New Braunfels Railroad Museum (NBRRM) is initiated.
1987, JULY 21: The NBHRMS accepts delivery of a Missouri Pacific caboose which they purchased and restored.
1992, MAY 13: San Antonio Conservation Society presents the New Braunfels Historic Railroad Society with a 1992 Historic Preservation Award for restoration of the depot.
1993, NOVEMBER 14: National Railway Historical Society awards charter for the Bluebonnet Chapter of the NRHS to New Braunfels Historic Railroad and Modelers Society.
1993, DECEMBER 20: An 0-6-0T Porter oil fired steam locomotive (Steam Engine) is delivered to the railroad museum. The NBRRM purchased the engine for restoration.
2008 : Through the generous donation of Doyle Bond, the Museum purchases a 1922 Pullman Dinning Car from the Guthrie Oklahoma Arts Council.
2009, MAY 23: The dinning Car arrives at the Museum Click Here to see the pictures of the arrival and reconstruction.
2010, JANUARY: Missouri Pacific High Cube boxcar donated to the Museum. The boxcar was previously used in New Braunfels, by a local couple, for a store selling swim suits and sunglasses, on the 337 Loop. The boxcar was renovated by Museum Volunteers and now houses our N Scale Model Layout.
2010, OCTOBER: After 950 Volunteer hours, the dining car is dedicated.
2012, APRIL 7: 'KIDS RUN THE TRAIN' program is initiated. Children of all ages enjoy running O and S Scale (Lionel and American Flyer) trains, on the First Saturday of each Month.
2012, May 21: Union Pacific continues it Bicentenial Celebration, with a 30 minute 'Whistle Stop' with its 'Heritage Train'. In honor of the visit, the UP donates $5,000.00 to the Museum. 4 members of the Museum join 16 New Braunfels civic leaders with a one hour ride to Sunset Station, in San Antonio.
2012, SEPTEMBER 1: The 'KIDS RUN THE TRAIN' program is so popular, that other kid activities are added, for our First Saturday Programs. The additional activites include a G Scale model and Lego building. The name of the program is changed to 'KIDS FUN DAY'.
2012, OCTOBER 31: Just in time for Halloween, the clearstory, and replicas of the depot chimney and two dormers are restored to the depot, bringing the structure back to its historical original look.
2012, DECEMBER 31: Attendance at the Museum increases to a record high 7500.
